Millions of disabled people will start receiving an extra 150 cost of living payment from today (June 20). The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Disability Cost of Living support payment will be paid automatically over the next two weeks to help disabled people with extra costs during the cost of living crisis.
It forms part of a wider cost of living support package which will provide up to an additional 1,350 to the most vulnerable households between 2023/24. More than seven million people received the first cost of living payment wort 301 in May this year and now six million disabled people are set to be given an addition 150.
People claiming certain benefits will automatically receive the money in the accounts between today and July 4 – you do not have to do anything special to claim the extra support. The DWP says a small number of people may see their money after this date, if claimants are still awaiting confirmation of their eligibility or entitlement to qualifying disability benefits on 1 April.

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride MP, said: “We recognise that some of the most vulnerable UK households continue to face cost of living pressures, in particular those who are disabled.
“Our commitment to halving inflation and ultimately getting it back to the 2% target will relieve a lot of financial pressure for us all, but this extra support will help over six million disabled people right now as we work towards that goal.”
This payment is in addition to three Cost Of Living payments totalling 900. The first of these, worth 301, was paid out between April and May. A second payment is due in the autumn, with a third hitting bank accounts in spring 2024. Exact payment dates are expected to be released closer to the time.
Pensioners will also receive an extra 300 later this year.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt MP, said: “The additional costs faced by disabled people mean inflation is particularly challenging, which is why halving it this year and getting back to the Bank of Englands 2% target is our priority.
“The 150 were sending disabled people over the next two weeks is part of a major cost-of-living support package worth just under 100 billion, providing some peace of mind to the most vulnerable in society.”
Eligible benefits
To qualify for this payment, you must have been claiming at least one of the following benefits on April 1:
Disability Living Allowance
Scottish Disability Benefits (Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment)
Armed Forces Independence Payment
